Russia and Japan have reached a pact to ease visa regulations and boost tourism in each other’s countries as per an economic cooperation plan Shinzo Abe, Japanese Prime Minister, had proposed by in May, Japanese officials said on 18 November.

The eight-point action plan includes some other characteristics such as cooperation on paediatrics and advancement of trade and investment of small and medium-sized companies will begin later this year, said the officials.

Hiroshige Seko, Japanese minister of economy, trade and industry, also tabled a report on the detailed projects to Abe as well as Vladmir Putin, Russian President, when they met on 19 November in Peru during a Pacific Rim economies summit.

When Putin visits Japan on 15 and 16 December, he will have further discussions with Abe on bilateral economic cooperation in eight fields, including energy, state-of-the-art technologies, medicine, etc.

Meanwhile, the East Asian country will set up Japan National Tourism Organization’s office in Moscow to boost tourism between the two nations.

They will also hold discussions on sports ahead of the FIFA 2018 World Cup, which is to be held in Russia.
