The Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the UAE (United Arab Emirates) have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for mutual visa exemption on 27 November.

As per the pact entered into by both the countries, citizens of UAE who hold diplomatic, service, ordinary and special passports will no longer need an entry visa when entering the Bahamas, the Gulf Business News cites news agency WAM as reporting.

Citizens of the island nation in the Atlantic Ocean will also not need a visa when travelling to the UAE.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, said that their country and the Bahamas have had historical ties, which were anchored on mutual understanding and respect.

He emphasised the need to strengthen further the ties between the two.

In the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, Emiratis enjoy the most freedom to travel to more countries than their counterparts as they also signed a visa-waiver agreement with the European Union last year.

Meanwhile, the citizens of UAE can travel to Botswana without having to apply for visas before entering it, where their passport holders can stay for a period of up to 90 days.

The Arab country citizens can also travel to Belarus visa-free for up to 30 days.
